You plan, you tinker and you can’t leave a question alone. A mad scientist costume fits because it rewards exactly that: the more little details you add, the better it gets.
It is cheap to start (a white shirt or coat and goggles) and as wild as you want to finish, with wild hair, bubbling props and a glow-stick “experiment”.
Why it’s you
- You plan the details
- You ask why. A lot.
- Chaotic in the best way
- You love a project
How to make it
- +A white lab coat, or an oversized white shirt worn open
- +Goggles or safety glasses pushed up on your head
- +Tease your hair up and back, or use a wild wig
- +Smudge grey eyeshadow on your cheeks as “soot”
- +Carry flasks or jars filled with glow sticks or coloured water
Tips
- !Write a name tag like “Dr. ___, Dept. of Bad Ideas”
- !Keep real chemicals and dry ice out of it; glow sticks are enough
Group or couple version
A scientist and their creation (the other person in grey make-up with stitched-on scars), or a whole lab of scientists whose experiments went wrong in different ways.
For fun. Costume ideas only; check your school’s, office’s or venue’s rules about masks, make-up and props before you go.
