Pig personality test

The classic draw a pig test, online. Draw a pig without thinking, answer six quick questions about it, and see what your pig says about you. Teachers: the printable PDF has the worksheet and the key on one page.

Step 1 of 2

Draw a pig. Don't think about it.

Use your finger, a pen or the mouse. Take about a minute. It does not have to be good.

Drew it on paper?

The draw a pig test key: what your pig means

Six things to look at, in the order people usually read them aloud. The key below is the classic one, in our own words.

Where the pig sits

Near the top: optimist
You look on the bright side and expect things to work out. People come to you for a lift.
In the middle: realist
You weigh the good and the bad and keep your feet on the ground. Few things knock you off balance.
Near the bottom: careful planner
You plan for what could go wrong and can be hard on yourself. Others call it pessimism; you call it being ready.

Which way it faces

To the left: traditional and warm
Friends and family come first. You remember birthdays, keep in touch and like the old ways that work.
Straight at me: direct
You say what you think, enjoy a good debate and do not run from awkward conversations.
To the right: innovator
You chase new ideas and move fast. Dates and routines may slip, because your head is already in the next thing.

How much detail

Lots of detail: analytical
You notice the small things, think before you act and take your time to trust people.
Some detail: balanced
You care about the details that matter and let the rest go. A practical mix of head and heart.
Just the outline: big-picture and emotional
You go with your gut, take chances and do not sweat the small stuff.

How many legs

Four legs: secure
You know what you believe and stick to it. Steady, dependable, and sometimes stubborn.
Fewer than four: in a season of change
Something in your life is shifting, or you are still working out where you stand. That is allowed.

Ear size

Big ears: good listener
People open up to you, and you remember what they told you.
Small or no ears: speaks their mind
You would rather talk than listen, or you keep your own counsel until you have made up your mind.

Tail length

Long or curly: happy in love
The old key says a long tail means a happy love life, or at least a hopeful one.
Short or none: love could use attention
The old key says your love life could use a little more time and care right now.

The nine pig types

Your headline comes from two answers together: where the pig sits on the page (your outlook) and which way it faces (your style).

How to run it with a group

  1. Don't explain. Say "Draw a pig. You have one minute." The less people know, the more fun the key is.
  2. Read the key one line at a time. Start with where the pig sits, end with the tail. Let everyone check their own drawing.
  3. Share if you like. Pass the pigs around or hold them up. Nobody has to explain their tail.
  4. Use it for language practice. For English learners, it is a good way to practise personality adjectives (optimistic, stubborn, analytical) and "if" sentences.

For adults it works just as well at a team meeting, a party or a first date. For students, keep it light and skip the love-life line with younger groups.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is the draw a pig test?
It is an old icebreaker. Everyone draws a pig on a blank sheet in about a minute, without being told why. Then you read the key: where the pig sits on the page, which way it faces, how much detail it has, and how many legs, how big the ears and how long the tail. The pig personality test and the draw a pig test are the same game with two names.
Is the pig personality test accurate?
No. Nobody has shown that the way you draw a pig predicts your personality, and the key has no known author or study behind it. Treat it as a fun conversation starter. If you want a personality test with research behind it, try the Big Five test on this site.
What does it mean if your pig faces left?
The usual key says a pig facing left belongs to someone traditional and warm, who puts friends and family first and remembers birthdays. Facing right points to an innovator who chases new ideas and forgets dates. Facing straight at you means a direct person who likes a good debate.
What does the tail mean in the draw a pig test?
In the key, the tail is about love. A long or curly tail means a happy, or at least hopeful, love life. A short tail or no tail means your love life could use more attention. It is the part that gets the biggest laugh in a classroom.
How do I use the pig test with students?
Hand out blank paper or our printable PDF, give students 60 seconds to draw a pig, and do not explain why. Then read the key one line at a time and let everyone check their own pig. It works for English classes (comparatives, adjectives for personality), the first day of school and team meetings. Keep it light and let anyone pass on sharing.
Do you save my drawing?
No. Your pig is drawn and read in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the share image is made on your device.
